  1. You know the drill. I was reading an article on IndieWire this morning about the annual JAPAN CUTS festival in NYC and came across this blurb about the upcoming film Amiko.

Unlikely this place becomes active again until there are some real developments w/r/t LP10.

Yeah, it uses the IMBW audio for the vocals and acoustic guitar.

According to VPC, the edit was a collab between himself and another old atease member. I wasn’t aware that it was on YouTube all this time - ha. And here I thought I was sharing some ultra-rare thing. I think you’re being too harsh in your critique, but I do think the straightforward-ness of this kind of take is the reason they didn’t end up recording it during that era. Similar to “Lift” in that regard. For the record, I adore the AMSP version and it’s still my favorite of all the TLW recordings, but barring an actual studio outtake from the OKC era I think this is the best take on the old TLW. VPC also said that the band has heard this version and love it, though gave no context beyond this. A running trend.

I've heard him make references to having met the band and conversed with them on some points, but yeah, it's sometimes difficult to know when he's making a conjecture. Like what he says about "House of Cards" - I've only ever heard him say it's about the novel The Ice Storm, but he says it like it's a confirmed thing (maybe it is; I don't recall Thom talking about it). Speaking of VPC, I was recently chatting with him and he sent me this version of "True Love Waits" which I had never heard before and is truly remarkable - the closest thing I've ever heard to a OKC-era studio take of this track. I'll let you guys guess where it comes from. True Love Waits.mp3

Yeah, I thought it was good. As a superfan I would have liked them to dive even deeper, but I think this was adequately deep for a show catering to non-fans and superfans alike. I didn't know that "True Love Waits" was originally written about the obsessive Japanese fandom.

Vice President Cheney aka VPC aka EsotericCD aka Jeff Blehar's Radiohead podcast went live this morning. Haven't listened to it myself yet, but wanted to link for those interested. Jeff's Radiohead knowledge has few parallels, and has an interesting personality to boot. Should be good.

The old atease user Vice President Cheney (VPC) has a music podcast called "Political Beats" and apparently it's pretty high quality (I don't listen to podcasts, so I don't know). He and his co-host get some pretty interesting guests to come on for each show. They're launching their Radiohead episode in a week or two, and I'm half considering giving it a listen because VPC's Radiohead knowledge is bonkers. I'll post it here when it comes out.

I want to make fun of this, but then I remember that I, too, got into Radiohead in high school and had a lot of overwrought thoughts about them (still do!). And now I feel old and sad.

    Editing posts

@adriaan please make it so the ability to edit posts does not go away a few minutes after submitting a post. This was not a feature of the old atease, and it’s rather annoying.

I've been listening to a bunch of Thom's unreleased solo stuff over the past few days and have a question: why does Thom disproportionately use falsetto these days? Does this have to do with aging, or is this a stylistic choice of his (or both)? I'm not a singer, so I'm not sure.

I sometimes wonder if newer/younger Radiohead fans, such as those on Reddit, don’t come here because, aside from atease’s traditionally offsetting culture, there’s not much familiarity with message boards anymore. My teenage years were in the early ‘00s before social media. At the time, message boards were the closest thing we had to social media (well . . . and MySpace, AIM, and early blogs). I get the sense that message boards are largely a relic of the past that younger people aren’t familiar with nor are interested in engaging with. I might be wrong.
